Tostas Pinoy Recipe– A Well Kept Family Tradition Revealed

Are you one of the people who can relate to the movie Ratatouille? A part of that movie depicts that emotion a person gets when you eat something that suddenly reminds you of your childhood or someone from the past. It may sound simple, but the emotion you get is so powerful that it can transform your emotion or better yet, make you feel so much better, and as if you were a child once again. This Tostas Pinoy recipe is from a friend’s childhood, which he generously gave to me to give to all of you. Hope it can also bring you joy and happiness as it does to my friend and his family.

10 pieces of medium banana (lakatan), cut into 4 equal pieces
Large lumpia wrapper (divided into 4 small, equal pieces)
1 large can of Carnation condensed milk (other condensed milk of your preference will do)
2 medium eggs (beaten)

How Tostas Pinoy Recipe is done:

  1. Wrap the sliced banana with the lumpia wrapper. This should look like a usual cheese stick. (you can use flour mixed with water to act as a paste while assembling)
  2. In a preheated pan, oil fry the wrapped banana until golden brown
  3. Place all the fried tostas onto a dish layered with paper towels to remove excess oil
  4. Prepare the dip
  5. Beat the condensed milk together with the eggs
  6. Once it’s completely mixed you may now pour the mixture onto a very low heat pan.
  7. Continue stirring until the sauce is thick enough and creamy enough
  8. Serve with the tostas
  9. You can play with plating anyway you want to. You can use the sauce as dip or you can pour it on top of the plated tostas (you’re the boss as always)
  10. Enjoy with your love ones in front of the TV while chatting.

Whatever may happen to you, wherever you are, your family will always be your family. No one and nothing can ever stop them from loving you. They are your solid foundation to help you go on with your life. And they are the ones you go back to each and every time. Let this Tostas Pinoy recipe be something that your future children be their own Ratatouille, that each time they taste it, they will think of nothing but home.   –xoxo your Sisig Master
