There is a friend of mine who posted a statement on Facebook about food reward on people. Well, it had me thinking about how most of my friends actually do eat anything they want, especially chocolates, ice cream and the likes, as a reward for accomplishing something at work or at home. I, for instance, from time to time would have to purchase expensive junk foods that I don’t normally buy or drink frappe after finishing a task or after completing a goal. Another example is one of our customers at Sisig Master who buys Sisig from us every single day just because his pregnant wife is craving it and he is not allowed to go home without it (This really is a cute story by the way, and so sweet of him to do it for his wife). Lastly, a friend who’s on a diet would eat anything tasty or highly palatable for a day just because she’s stressed out or because she’s very happy about something.
As I research about this topic on Google, most
results on food reward is connected to obesity, being fit and unwanted fat. Well
well well, not that I did not expect it, but bingeing on tasty delicacies would
obviously result to unwelcome fats right? If you are eating just because it
signifies a reward, you are not likely hungry but just craving for something
sweet, sour etc. Your goal is not to satisfy hunger but just to have the
pleasure of eating your preferred food on that very moment. Most foods that would
come to mind are junk foods, fast foods, chocolates,
ice cream etc. I am not an expert on food science, but I am speaking based on
my own experience. And I am quite sure a lot would agree that eating those that are considered "bawal" gives a certain satisfaction to a person. I have heard so many stories and seen a lot of movies who
shows a broken hearted girl digging on a pint of creamy vanilla ice cream with her
girlfriends who are consoling her. ( I sometimes do it too!)
I may have no hard proof on how food reward
causes obesity but, all I know for sure is it does help relieve sadness that one
feels or make each victory a lot more sweeter. Anyway, its connection on
obesity may be accurate but, I can only think of one thing. Food! You can always
eat what you want but keep in mind to take it reasonably and moderately. It's hard, I know, but it doesn't mean it's not doable. Promise! xoxo your Sisig Master
